Memphis International Airport is located ten miles from the East Memphis business district and seven miles south of downtown. In spring, magnolias bloom with fragrant blooms, azaleas dance with color, and Memphis is more picturesque (and popular) than any other time of year. The rainfall and peaks in April around the 1970s mark the beginning of the high season, which lasts until September. Why so long? This extraordinary city of music hosts numerous events and festivals throughout the year, but the best take place in spring and summer.

May has a pleasant temperature of 61 to 80 degrees and May is the month of Memphis. The city's largest and longest festival, it features two main attractions: the three-day World Grilling Championship and the riverside Beale Street Music Festival, featuring more than 60 bands. Despite the unbearable humidity in August, Elvis fans gather to celebrate the anniversary of the King's death with a candlelight vigil and a week of events. In late September, cooler days (and festivities like Midtown's fashionable Cooper-Young Festival) draw out about 40,000 fans.

Fall weather can be unpredictable, but visiting Memphis between October and November is a no-brainer: the days are mostly sunny and pleasantly cool, there are still plenty of festivals in the area, and the crowds are smaller but still bustling. It's also easier to find lower room rates. In October, artisans and family fun take center stage at the four-day Pink Palace Craft Fair. The locals prefer November for its refreshing average temperatures of 43 to 62 degrees.

Winter in Memphis can be cold, but snow is rare and temperatures are typically below freezing. In fact, the average temperature does not drop below 30 degrees. Come December through February and you'll find that room rates are the lowest, there are virtually no crowds, and Beale Street is a bit quieter. January is usually the coolest month of the year, but that doesn't stop Beale Street from celebrating New Year's Eve - or Elvis fans celebrating his birthday. Regardless of the time of year, you can often save more by spending a weekend in the city center after a busier weekday business trip.
